The Role of a Groomsman / Ushers

  • Runs errands during the engagement and on the wedding day as needed.
  • Pays for his own attire, attends fittings.
  • May help with arrangements for bachelor party and/or buck and doe.
  • May be required to say a speech at the wedding reception.
  • Gives gift to the wedding couple.
  • Attends the Rehearsal to get familiarized with the wedding ceremony proceedings and seating arrangements.
  • Attends the Rehearsal dinner.
  • Arrive at the church at approximately one hour before ceremony.
  • May light candles before wedding ceremony.
  • Wear boutonniere on left side of lapel.
  • Escort wedding guests to their seats by offering women their right arm. Usually Groom's family and friends sit on the right and Bride's family and friends sit on the left. If one side is expecting more guests than the other, you may wish to balance the seating by seating some of the excess to the other side. First few pews are reserved for immediate family and maybe a few close friends. Groom's mother is second last to be seated and Bride's mother is last to be seated before ceremony begins.
  • Has pictures taken with wedding party.
  • May be required to stand in receiving line.
  • Sits at head table at the wedding reception.
  • Assist guests if needed.
  • Help with set-up and decorating if needed.
  • Help with clean up after the wedding reception if needed.
  • Escorts the Bride's Maid that you are partnered with throughout the ceremony and wedding day as needed. Dance with this partner at the wedding reception during the song for the wedding party.
  • Helps with transporting gifts from reception if needed.
  • Helps Bride and Groom wherever needed before during and after wedding day.
  • Have a great time.
