Licence
Requirements for the Province of Ontario
The
marriage licence is issued only
to the Bride and/or Groom.
Both parties must sign the Marriage Licence
Application.
Two pieces of identification are required by all applicants applying
for a marriage licence. An original
birth certificate or valid passport , any change of name certificates,
record of immigrant landing or Canadian Citizenship
card plus photo identification for both parties such as driver's
licence or OHIP card, regardless of whether both parties will
be present.
The marriage licence fee is $110.00-140.00, payable
by Cash or Interact.
Licences will be issued during normal business
hours.(8:30am - 4:00pm)
If you have been divorced within Canada, the
original or court certified copy of the Decree Absolute or Certificate
of Divorce from the court where the divorce was granted is required
when you bring filled application in.
If you were divorced outside of Canada, please
request foreign divorce instructions.
There are no residency, medical, or citizenship requirements.
A marriage licence is valid
for use anywhere in Ontario for a period of 3
months or 90 days from the date of issuance and must be use within
those 90 days.
Sixteen and Seventeen year olds require both parents consent.
For weddings out of Province contact that region
for information and procedures. For weddings
out of country, contact that embassy or consulate for that country.
The
person who performs the marriage forwards the
marriage licence to the Office
of the Registrar General for registration. Allow 8-10 weeks for
the marriage to be registered before applying
for a marriage certificate.
Marriage certificates are $15.00 for file size
or $22.00 for certified copy, allow 6-8 weeks to receive the marriage
certificate. Marriage certificate
will be need for change of name. The bride and
groom are given the Record of Solemnization of
Marriage to keep after the wedding ceremony.
